rounded, ribbed cavetto and sloping rim,
with discretely bracket-lobed edge;

some details painted in underglaze blue. In
the centre of the dishes, within a double
circle, the crowned arms of the dukedoms of

The armorial is identified below by a scroll
with the name inscribed in Dutch. In each
case the shield is flanked by a floral spray
with perching birds, underneath by a flower
stem and above by two butterflies.
The cavetto and the rim are treated as a
single unit, just like the
kraakporselein
of the
Ming dynasty, and are moulded with twelve
panels shaped like lotus petals, each
decorated alternately with either a human
figure on a green landscape or a vase of
flowers. Around the border, a honeycomb
diaper pattern. On the back of the dishes,
swiftly drawn flower sprays.
